Andrew James McIlroy

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew James McIlroy from heart failure on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 70. He passed at Royal Victoria Hospital with his family at his side. Andrew was predeceased by his parents, May (née Bruce) and Jimmy McIlroy, as well as his sister Rosina (John). He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Dorothy (Dennis), Cathy (Grant), Debbie, and Janice (Bob) and his many family members in Canada, Scotland and around the world.

Andrew was the beloved husband of Karin Wargel McIlroy, and a devoted father to Duncan and Cameron, whom he shared with their mother, Beth Clune. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Liam, who cherished his Papa deeply.

Andrew dedicated over 30 years of service to Toronto Paramedic Services, touching countless lives with his skill, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others. The number of people he cared for is truly immeasurable. Known for his sense of humour, Andrew would often say he was “the best ACP Toronto has ever seen”—a remark that captured both his confidence and his lighthearted spirit. He then worked dispatch for Ornge for 13 years before retiring.

Beyond his career, Andrew was deeply involved in his community. He generously gave his time to Kempenfest and the Optimist Club of Barrie, and was a proud supporter of Renascent House, Campfire Circle, and Northwest Barrie United Church.

Andrew had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in hiking, camping, and canoeing, and treasured time spent exploring nature and back trails with his family and his beloved dog, Floki.

Above all, Andrew will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to his friends and his deep love for his family. His legacy of care, humour, and community spirit will live on in all who knew him.

Memorial service to be held Thursday May 14th, 2026 at Northwest Barrie United Church 1pm with light refreshments and fellowship to follow.

If desired, memorial donations to Campfire Circle would be appreciated by the family.
