Bastiaan (Bas) Hendrik Asselbergs

February 7, 1952 – May 19, 2026

Bas was a true Renaissance man.

He loved science, art, music, theatre, reading, good food, and golf.

Bas was fiercely devoted to his family and friends and was a proud Rotarian.

He found great pleasure in the sanctuary of his home, cooking scrumptious meals, and travelling in the Netherlands.

Sunrises and sunsets, bird song, the garden of tulips, the tapestry of fall colours, and the first snow fall delighted Bas’ soul.

Family gatherings with shared stories and much laughter were the pinnacle of his joy.

Bas lived life with a deep sense of gratitude.

A good day meant laughing at least once and learning something new.

Seek the good.

Experience the joy.

That is where Bas will be.

Celebration of life will be Saturday, June 13, 2026, 1-3pm, at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Dr, Barrie (parking and entrance on Hwy400 side of building).

In lieu of flowers/donations, Bas would be delighted to receive a tulip bulb in his memory for his tulip garden.
