Beverly (Bev) Joanne McGill (nee Bartleman) passed away Sunday May 28th, 2023 at the age of 91 years, due to the multiple illnesses that tend to happen in your 90’s. She was surrounded by her loving family. Bev is predeceased by her husband Donald Richard McGill and her son Raymond (Ray) McGill. She is survived by her daughter Frances McGill and granddaughter Megan McGill.
Bev was born in Hamilton, Ontario and later moved to Kitchener, Ontario with her family. Bev graduated from Normal School and taught grades 1 and 2 prior to returning to school for her Bachelor’s degree which she felt she would require for higher education teaching.
While Bev enjoyed teaching, she also wanted to try her hand at writing. She joined the London Free Press for several years before returning to teaching. In 1960 she received an offer to teach at Barrie North Collegiate in Barrie, Ontario. It was at North where she met her future husband, Don McGill. When the kids got a bit older, she returned to casual teaching until getting an offer at Georgian College, where she taught until retirement.
Bev loved golfing and played it into her late 70’s. While she enjoyed golfing, she admitted that it was likely her swing that caused back problems. After moving in together with her daughter and granddaughter, she enjoyed watching her granddaughter become a lovely young woman whom she was fiercely proud of. She also saw her son find the love of his life, Carol McGill, with whom he shared many years together.
Bev had a long life and treasured every moment on “this side of the grass.” She joins her husband, son, and many family members in His land forever.
