It is with extreme sadness and broken hearts that we share the passing of our daughter Danielle at Hospice Huronia in Penetang after a short stay at Waypoint. She passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, the same day as her brother Chad four years earlier. She was 31 years of age.
We know she was greeted by so many loved ones who have gone before her; Nanny and Papa, June and Edward Mossop, Grandmother Charlotte Saunders, Uncle Paul Mossop, Uncle Les van Hemert, and Cousin Noelle Smith. Special mention of Amanda Kelsall, Leanne Brown, and Anne Doucette, who all helped our family at one time with Danielle, and of course her big brother Chad.
Danielle will be remembered as a precious daughter to Judi and Mark Mitchell, loving big sister to Allie Mitchell, niece to Aunti Carol and Uncle Dave Rollinson, Aunt Victoria van Hemert, Uncle Pat Mitchell, Cousin to David Mossop, Jennie and Troy Ricci, Jenn and Jeremy Rollinson, and their children (second cousins) Zeph, Ruby, Tilly, Emma, Noah, and Leia. She will always hold a special place within our hearts!
Danielle did not have an easy life, but despite all her setbacks, Danielle lived a good life. She attended Forest Hill Public School in Midhurst, then onto Andrew Hunter for grades 7 and 8 in Barrie, where they taught a Life Skills program Danielle excelled in. She then went to St. Joseph’s High School in Barrie where we noticed she was declining slowly, later learning of her MPSIIIA dragons. Danielle also spent a few years at The Little Blue Schoolhouse, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
In her younger years, Danielle enjoyed many activities and learned so much by watching her younger sister Allie of two-and-a-half years. Danielle loved school, her friends, jigsaw puzzles, movies, horseback riding, Sparks and Brownies, day camp at Willow Creek and AHHA, and camping overnight at Pioneer Camp. She learned to skate and did for years in the Elmvale Arena. She loved swimming, skiing, tobogganing, bowling, rides in the side-by-side, and playing with her Polly Pockets, but I believe music and dancing were her favourites. A lot of these activities and many day trips were done with the Zilneys. Danielle loved everyone, but she had her favourites, and Jessica was definitely one of them!
As Danielle aged, we made the difficult decision to place her in a group home shortly after she was diagnosed with MPSIIIA. She spent a short term in Muskoka, but then we were lucky enough to get a bed at A Helping Hand Always in Minesing where she resided for ten years and received so much love, care, and respect. We will be eternally grateful to Ivette, Junior, and all the wonderful staff.
Please come join us for a Celebration of Danielle’s Life to be held at The Heights, 1106 Horseshoe Valley Road West, Barrie, on Friday, November 13th, 2026, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Huronia, or a hospice of your choice.
