Glenna Dawn (nee Campbell) Leggett

February 5, 1939 - August 5, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Glenna Dawn Leggett, beloved wife of Dr. Robert George Edward Leggett, mother of Chris (Miriam), Andrew, and Blair (Jean). Grandmother to Madeline and Rachel, sister-in-law to Dr. William Leggett (Patricia) of New Hamburg, step-sister to Maryanne (Richard) Bowman of Brockville.

Dawn was pre-deceased by her parents, Dr. Frederick A. Campbell and Cora E. Pearce, and brother Gordon.

Dawn is also survived by many cousins in Western Canada.

Dawn was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and came east when her father attended University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, eventually settling in Barrie in 1951.

Dawn attended Prince of Wales School and Barrie Collegiate where she played the flute and was a member of the Barrie Collegiate Band and Band President in 1956-57, under Dr. W.A. Fisher. Dawn then went to University of Toronto to study dental hygiene at the Faculty of Dentistry. It was there that she met her future husband, George Leggett. Dawn graduated in May 1959 and married Dr. George Leggett at St. Giles Anglican Church in Barrie on April 22, 1961. They were married for over 65 years.

Dawn studied at Georgian College and became a Master Spinner. She was a member of the Simcoe County Spinners and Weavers Association. She eventually taught spinning at Georgian College.

Dawn was very active in St. Giles Chancel Guild and St. Margaret’s Anglican Church. She eventually went to St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Churchill where she worked in the Chancel Guild and Pastoral Care, visiting many shut-ins of the parish.

Dawn was an active advocate for gifted children in the Barrie area. She was also an avid gardener. Dawn had a calm and dignified presence and was a strong matriarchal influence on her family.

Dawn’s health started to deteriorate when she was diagnosed with dementia, and this led to a serious fall at home where she fractured her hip. This led to eventually being housed at Roberta Place Long Term Care, where she was extremely well cared for until her passing.

A private service will be held in the future and interment of Dawn’s ashes will be in the family plot in Barrie Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Dawn’s memory be directed to the Alzheimer’s Society of Barrie, Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or Roberta Place Long Term Care.
