Evelyn Thompson
With gratitude for a life of faith and service to her Lord Jesus Christ, the family of Evelyn Thompson announces that she went to be with her Saviour on Thursday, June 18, 2026, just twelve days before her 96th birthday.
Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ross Thompson; her sisters, Nancy Hayes and Joyce Stephenson; and her parents, Percy and Jean Geer (née Kirkwood).
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters, Sandi (Cliff) Topping, Cathy (John) Wakefield, and Jo (Rick) Buck. She was a cherished grandmother to Becky (Scott), Erin (Andrew), Megan (Josh), Cameron (Kirsten), Carrie (Jon), Daniel (Bethany), Stuart (Sarah), Jon (Erica), and Kristy (Brian), and a proud great-grandmother to 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Evelyns life was marked by her deep love for the Lord, her devotion to her family, and her desire to serve. She was married to Ross, her best friend, for almost 59 years. A faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for nearly 76 years, Evelyn served her church family in many ways, including being the church pianist for 25 years, singing with the Emmanuel Ladies Trio, and participating on the hospitality committee. She also greatly enjoyed her years serving as Chair of the MBC (Muskoka Bible Centre) Ladies Committee. Her faith was evident in both her words and actions, and she touched many lives through her kindness, generosity, and servants heart.
While her church ministry was an important part of her life, nothing brought Evelyn greater happiness than spending time with her three daughters and their husbands, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Her love, encouragement, and unwavering support created a legacy that will continue through the generations she cherished so dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held for Evelyn’s family and friends at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on the Highway 400 side of the building), on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Others may join virtually via the livestream link provided below.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Emmanuel Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23.
