Gerritje (Gerrie) Vandevis (nee: Verhoog)

December 30, 1928 – June 1, 2023

With deepest love, honor and respect we announce the passing on June 1, 2023 of Gerrie Vandevis, our dearest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother in her 95th year. She was born on December 30, 1928 in Waarder, South Holland and is predeceased by her husband of 53 years Marinus Vandevis, (2005) her son Bill (2010), infant grandson Leonard Noordegraaf (1976), and son-in-law Leonard Noordegraaf (2021).

She is survived by Gerry Noordegraaf, her five children Carolyn, Ben (Sherri), Dan (Renita), Jenny (Dwight Kers) and Laura (Todd Stouffer); Ted (Janet) and their children Brad (Marlana), and Karen (Adam Arnold); (Annette Vandevis) and her children Jennifer (Andrew Di Domenico), Melanie (Nick Brockett) and Ryan; Marietta (Al Stevens) and their children Christina (Derrick Weening), Jessica (Paul Raynor), Antoinette, and Julia (Peter  Anglin). She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren. She was the last remaining of both her Verhoog and Vandevis brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, most of whom lived and died in Holland. An era has closed.

Mom was always a busy person, simultaneously being a wife and mother, Marsh Food Store owner, veal farmer, gardener, and veterinarian supplies dealer. In addition, she made the time to knit us all zippered sweater coats. She loved to crochet blankets, doilies and table cloths. Her hands were never idle and her heart was always full. The last ten years of her life she suffered from dementia and we now all feel blessed that her fight is over. Rest in peace.

A family graveside interment will be held Tuesday June 6, 2023 at 10:00 in Barrie Union Cemetery, followed by visitation from 11:00 to 12:00 at Barrie First Christian Reformed Church, 33 Shirley Avenue, Barrie, followed by a celebration of her life at 12:00.
