It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Tony (Hugh) Hill , 73 years old in Barrie Ontario on March 29th 2026.
Tony was born on November 11th 1952 to Zena and Lloyd Hill in Huntsville Ontario. Tony was the beloved younger brother of his sisters Gay and Joy. He was raised in Hillside surrounded by a loving family and great friends including his honorary brother , Bruce Ransom. Tony thrived in this environment and developed his “ can do “ attitude that permeated all aspects of his life, work, family, friends and his passions and interests.
Tony left Huntsville to study Respiratory Therapy at the Toronto institute of Medical Technology (TIMT) in 1972. He made lifelong friends at school and in his training years. He embarked on a long career, working at various hospitals and companies. Tony met Linda when they both worked at Etobicoke General Hospital , when he was sent to the cafeteria by the boss to “ check out the new girl!” He spent his last years before retirement working at Southlake Hospital, with a wonderful department of therapists that he thoroughly enjoyed working with.
Tony loved new adventures and after working as a new respiratory therapist for a year, he sold his car and went with his best friend John Malone to explore Europe for 6 months. They travelled extensively from Amsterdam to Greece, backpacking their way through many countries. This love of travel continued on when he and Linda would take day trips in his beloved 76 Triumph spitfire to explore towns in rural Ontario and longer trips with good friends to Manitoulin island, Killarney Provincial Park , Alexandria Bay New York, Woodstock New York, and Cap Cod. He was a huge Bob Dylan fan and was thrilled to find the house in the country Bob Dylan recorded his “Music from the Big Pink album”. Tony loved playing guitar and jamming with his friends.
Tony was passionate about his love of the outdoors and was honoured to be a member of the Loon Lake Hunt Club where he served as a member of the board and as a president of the board for 2 years . His father Lloyd Hill, was a guide there so it thrilled him that he was able to be with Lloyd and James at the property together to share in their passion for the land, hunting and fishing and the club events and activities. The Father and Son weekend was the highlight of his year.
Tony is survived by his wife Linda ( nee Crowe) ; son James and daughter in-law Tina ( nee Swatton); his darling granddaughter Belle ; sister and brother in law Sue and Charles Hamilton; brother in lay William ( Bill) Mootz and nephew Paul Mootz; niece Andrea Pulford ( nee Swan) and her husband Rob Pulford and their sons Nathan and Liam. Close friends to Jim and Sheila Orton; Dan and Nilamma Hope and John and Patti Malone.
Predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Zena Hill; sisters Joy ( Mootz) and Gay ( Swan) and brother in law Robert ( Bob) Swan and nephew Robert ( Robbie ) Swan.
Our family would request a donation , in lieu of flowers, to Hospice Simcoe at 336 Penetanguishine road Barrie . The staff and Dr. Lai provided Tony with superb care and support to our family during his final days and this will help them continue in their incredible work.
Visitation will be on April 7th 2026 from 6-9 pm at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building).
