TRIPP, Irene Margaret (Charlton)
November 27, 1936 – April 22, 2026
Peacefully and on her own terms, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe.
Mom was dearly loved and liked by all, especially her family. Dear Mom to Karen Charlton, Lynn and Joe Timms and Cathy Charlton. Adored Nana to Julie Hunter, Shawn and Paige Hunter, Chloe Garner, Sasha and Chad Burchfield, Phil and Dana Timms, and Spencer Timms and fiancée Erica Girouard. Cherished Great Nana (GG) to Crosby Hunter and Lucy Burchfield with two more greats soon to arrive.
Mom was born in Toronto to the late Bill Doherty, lost at sea 1940, and Ethel Doherty (nee Tanner). Mom was predeceased by her brother Keith Doherty along with his wife Heather Doherty.
Mom married our Dad, Clare Charlton, in 1957 and all of us were born in Toronto before moving to Barrie in 1968. Dad passed away in 1990 and Mom spent several years as an independent strong woman.
In 1997 she met Marshall Tripp and they were both “smitten” from the very beginning. They married a year later and shared a life of love, travel and raising their special pup, Baxter. Marshall passed in 2012. Mom spent several years on her own in their house in Midhurst and then made a life for herself at The Bay Club. There she made many friends and became active on the Social Committee, exercise classes and getting together with friends for martinis. It gave us all a chuckle that on New Years Eve 2025 Mom was the only one of who went out to celebrate.
We were blessed to be raised by a Mom who always knew her own mind and grew to flourish and make her own decisions as she aged. She had definite thoughts and opinions never hesitating to express them to us, even sometimes when you didn’t ask. Christmas Eve was her favourite night of the year and she always made the evening and all holidays special and peaceful. We will forever be thankful for the examples she set and proud of the woman who raised us. During COVID, we started taking walks together by the lake and this became one of Mom's favourite pastimes. We never tired of being by the water, looking at nature and just being together. These will be some of our favourite memories.
You will be missed and thought of everyday Mom, by all of us. Our Mom, our Matriarch, our glue. Your legacy lives on in the family you created. Thank you for the memories.
We would like to thank Dr. Mossman, Dr. Cohen and all the incredible employees and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe. We couldn’t have done this without you.
Relatives and friends will be received at LEGACY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building) on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 11 a.m. until time of Service in the Chapel at 12 o’clock p.m. Reception to follow. Private family interment at a later date.
If you will be supporting the family on Saturday please note that this is a scent free funeral.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated by the family.
