James "Jim" Albert Kerr, electrician, entrepreneur and owner of Beachcomber Hot Tubs in Barrie and Collingwood passed away unexpectedly at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the age of 74. Jim's loving presence will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
Beloved husband and soul mate and childhood sweetheart to Debbie for 54 years. Cherished father to Rob (Shannon) and Rachelle Kerr (Justin). Loved grandfather to Walker and Hudson. Survived by his mother Winnie and predeceased by his father Jim Sr. Dear brother to Sandra Hankin (Jim) and brother in-law to Vickie Free, Bonnie Free, Kevin Free (Teresa) and John Free. Jim will be forever loved and remembered by many extended family, good friends and all their dedicated employees.
Born on November 17, 1948, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Jim was a shining example of strength, dedication, ambition and hard work and so much more. After becoming a licenced electrician, Jim became a journeyman for Ontario Hydro for 23 years. His skills expanded quickly to a number of other trades. From an early age, he demonstrated a natural aptitude for tradecraft, business and innovation.
Jim and Deb’s entrepreneurial spirit knew no bounds as they changed gears and embarked on a new endeavor — becoming the proud owners and franchisees of Beachcomber Hot Tubs. Jim’s teaching and mentorship capabilities built the servicing arm of the business and the technical skills of the hot tub service team. Through his expertise and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, Jim established himself as a prominent figure in the industry locally.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim will always be remembered for his warm heart, loving and caring nature. He had an unparalleled sense of humor that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. His contagious laughter brought joy to all those around him and created lifelong memories filled with laughter and happiness.
As a family man, Jim’s love and devotion knew no limits. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, creating lasting bonds that will continue to thrive in their hearts. Especially fond were the memories of summer days by the pool when Jim warmly welcomed his children's friends into their home, ensuring that everyone felt like part of the family.
A kind-hearted and generous man with a natural ability to lead others towards success, Jim's legacy as an esteemed entrepreneur will endure for generations to come. He inspired others with his unwavering determination and willingness to help those around him. Jim's friends and colleagues will always remember him as a visionary who believed in teamwork and led by example.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Jim and Deb had a thirst for exploration and adventure. Their love for travel took them to breathtaking destinations across the Caribbean and several winters in Florida allowing them to immerse themselves in different cultures and create cherished memories that will be forever engraved in the hearts of those who accompanied them on these journeys.
Jim leaves behind memories that will be forever etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy, built upon compassion, laughter, practical jokes, entrepreneurship, and love for family will continue to inspire future generations.
In recognition of his remarkable achievements and the profound impact he had on countless lives, a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday July 11th, 2023, from 1-4:30 at Lionsgate Banquet Centre, 386 Blake St., Barrie, On, L4M 1L3. Together, we will celebrate the extraordinary life of James "Jim" Albert Kerr and bid farewell to a man whose light shone brightly in our lives. May he rest in eternal peace knowing that his legacy will endure for all time.
