With deep sadness, the family of James Edwards announces his peaceful passing on June 16, 2026

James, affectionately known as Jim, was the beloved husband of Ruth for 65 wonderful years. From High School sweethearts, they went on to share a lifetime of love, devotion, and cherished memories.

Jim was a dedicated father to George (Corin) and a proud Poppa to JJ (Emily) and Kerri (Mike). He delighted in being Great Poppa to Connor, Briar, and Jordan.

He was a supportive and loving father to Sharon (Larry), and a treasured Poppa to Bailey (Ross)and Teagan (Linda). He looked forward to the arrival of his great-grandson, Bryson.

Jim was a caring and committed father to Tanya (Ron), and a loving Poppa to Christie (Mike)and Cody (Emma). He was excitedly awaiting the arrival of his 5th great-grandchild, Baby Baugh.

He was predeceased by his loving son-in-law, Randall Boyle (Sharon).

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his siblings-in-law Bruce (Marg) Dangerfield and, George (Sharon) Dangerfield and nieces and nephews Nancy, Christy, Chris, and Joel, along with many extended family members and friends who were fortunate to know and love him.

Jim grew up in Barrie and, after graduating from Barrie Central, went on to U of T where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. From there, he went into shaping lives as a teacher at both North and Eastview Collegiates. His dedication to education led him into the positions of Vice Principal at Eastview, and then Principal at North Collegiate and Innisdale Secondary School. He is fondly remembered by all the staff that worked with him, and the many students that passed through the high school halls.

He was an excellent athlete and could often be found in the arena playing hockey or hitting the baseball over the fence (and all the way to the Armoury!) at Queen’s park. Sometimes, somewhat reluctantly, he could also be found trying to keep up with Ruth on the tennis courts as well!

A perennial snowbird, Jim enjoyed 35 winters with Ruth down in Florida at Maple Leaf Golf and Country Club. There they led an active lifestyle, surrounded by many, many good friends. It is here, later in life, that Jim let his more “artistic” side flourish, taking great pride and enjoyment from his bird carving classes and singing in the choir. He loved music.

But above all, Jim will be remembered as a great family man, who always put the needs of his wife and children first. The outpouring of love from his wife, kids, grandkids and great grand kids is a testament to the love he gave and the lives he gently shaped.
