Thickson, James “Jim”
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer. His wit and spirit strong until the end as he received exceptional care at RVH. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara and children; Kimberley, James, Timothy (Lisa), Christopher (Jen), and Matthew (Melissa). Proud Granddad of Stephanie, Stephen, Chris, Avery, Rebecca, Thomas, Stephanie, Daniel, and Emily and Great Granddad of Alora-Lynn, Noah, Ben, and Logan. Devoted provider for his family who commuted by foot from Port Hope to Cobourg to work as a letter carrier. To further provide for his family he joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he proudly served for 22 years as a Military Police Officer and was a member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment at home and overseas. Upon retiring from the military, he moved to the private sector as armed security. After years of commuting to Toronto in his trusty Volkswagen Van on the dreaded 400 series highways, he finally listened to his loving wife, and took a job in Barrie. It was this job at Napoleon, where he worked for the last 20+ years of his career. He will be remembered there for his military work ethic, lottery pool team lead, and appearance as Santa Claus (with wife Mrs. Claus by his side). Friends may visit at Legacy Funeral Home (600-55 Cedar Pointe Drive Barrie, Ontario 705-728-8282) on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 2pm to 5pm.
