John Farrington Dewhurst

Passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the age of 80.
 
Born on January 31, 1944, John led a remarkable life filled with dedication and compassion. He began his journey by attending sea school in the U.K. at the tender age of 16. His adventurous spirit led him to work prestigious vessels such as the Himalaya, and Chuson of the P & O Lines, where he honed his skills and developed a deep love for the sea.
 
Throughout his career, John made a significant impact on his community through his selfless work. He served as an essential member of the ambulance team in York Region, where he provided critical care and comfort to those in need. Later on, he took on the role of a dispatcher for the York Region Roads Department, ensuring the smooth functioning of operations for the betterment of all. After retiring, John moved to Barrie.
 
John's jovial and fun-loving personality endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His infectious laughter and warm smile would light up any room, bringing joy to those around him.
 
Among his proudest accomplishments was his family, whom he cherished above all else. John leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire future generations. He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and one great granddaughter who will always carry his memory in their hearts.
 
Beloved husband of Audrey for 33 years. Loving father to Peter of Calgary, John, and Ann both of Newmarket; Audrey's daughters Catherine (Brett) Foley of Keswick and Janice Smith of Barrie. John is also survived by his sister Pam and her son Garth (Brenda) of Australia. He also leaves behind five grandchildren Jennifer (Ryan), Robyn, Aspyn (David), Rylan, Tallyn; and extra special great granddaughter Olivia, as well as his brother in-law Ivan (Bonnie) of Greeley, and sister in-law Sheila of Timmins. Predeceased by his parents John (Jack) Farrington Dewhurst and Lucile (Lucy) Farrand.
 
A Celebration of Life in honor of John Farrington Dewhurst will be held at Legacy Funeral Home 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (entrance and parking on Hwy 400 side of building) on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 2-4 pm.
 
Memorial donations to the RVH Foundation would be appreciated.

John will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering spirit, dedication to service, and unwavering love for his family. May he rest in peace knowing that he has left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
