Joseph “Joe” Deeder
Our family is devastated to announce the passing of the most incredible husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend - Joe Deeder. Joe fought a tremendously brave battle with cancer and passed peacefully with his family by his side, just shy of his 66th birthday. Joe is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Tilly, and his in-laws, Grant and Diana. Joe remained a loving and devoted husband to Susan for over 40 years. Joe’s love for his children, Matt (Christina) and Jenn (Justin), was only matched by his love for his granddaughter, Amelia. Joe will be forever missed by his sister, Angie (John), his nephews, Kevin (Krista & Family), and Chris (Zaria), brother-in-law, Dave, niece, Katie, and great-nephew, Tristan. The family dogs, Marsi, Quentin, and Zoe, loved their Grandad more than anyone else. He will be sincerely missed by cousins and many close friends. To know Joe was to love him. He had the most infectious smile, incredible humour, and was a selfless and generous friend to all.
Joe was a die-hard Toronto and Canadian sports fan. He never missed a Jays game, a Team Canada hockey game, and even remained loyal to the Maple Leafs. Joe was an avid fisherman and spending time on his boat was one of his favourite places to be. He was the definition of the word “reliable” and was always our first call. He was a go-to for all things mechanical, a one-man moving crew, an encyclopedia of (sometimes useless) knowledge, a “Mr. Fix-It”, and the most supportive person to have in your corner. Joe went through his treatments with bravery and strength like a real-life superhero. He was an undeniable pillar that held up everyone around him.
Joe always stated that he believed “everything happens for a reason” and while his family is struggling with the reality of his loss, we believe that he would still say this to us today. His loss is one that will always seem unfair and far too soon. But we will carry his love, his wisdom, his words, his humour, and his positivity with us for the rest of our lives. There was simply no one greater.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider making a donation to a cancer research institution in memory of Joe. A Celebration of Life will take place on April 18th, 2026 from 1-3pm, located at 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Unit 600 in Barrie, ON, (parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building).
