Miguel Angel Guaita, 91, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026. He was born in Ambato, Ecuador.
Miguel was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and a loyal friend. He was deeply loved not only by his family, but also by many people he met throughout his life who, over time, became like family to him.
Though born in Ecuador, Miguel made Toronto his home at the age of 38. He spent most of his life working as a painting contractor, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and pride in his work.
Miguel was often known for his seriousness and for running a strict household, but those who truly knew him understood that his love was one of a kind. He held high standards, especially for his family and sons, but it came from a place of deep care and responsibility. He showed his love through his actions—by providing, guiding, and always being present. To those closest to him, his love was strong, steady, and unwavering.
His love for soccer was unmatched. From playing the game himself to coaching his sons, it was something that ran deeply in his blood and brought him great pride and joy. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his cats and dogs, which brought him comfort and companionship throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Rodriguez; his children, Adrian Guaita, Carlos Guaita, Angel Guaita, and Miguel Jr. Guaita; his daughters-in-law, Tara Gastmeier and Nicole Vera; and his grandchildren, Christian Gastmeier, Gabriel Guaita, Niko Guaita, Taylor Elliot, and Keanu Elliot, along with many extended family members and close friends.
He was predeceased by his sons, Carlos Sr. Guaita, and Patrick Guaita.
Family and friends will be received at Legacy Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building), on Saturday May 2, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
Miguel will be remembered for his strength, his dedication to his family, and the quiet way he showed his love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through those who knew and loved him.
