Peter Gubbels

Passed away at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Isabelle (nee Kenwell) for 58 years. Loved father of Donna Koetzle (Fred), Dave Gubbels (deceased), Cathie Gilligan (Wayne), and Chris Gubbels. Cherished grandfather to Ryan Koetzle (Lisa), Megan Guy (Jeff), Cole Gilligan, and Dana Gilligan. Great Grandfather to Emma Koetzle. Dear brother to the late John Gubbels (Ida), Leo Gubbels (Late Ann), Betty Deschamps (Don), the late Nellie Vandenhoogen (Bill), Frank Gubbels (Lisette), the late Louise Deschamps (Roger), Joe Gubbels, and Hurb Gubbels (Bonnie). Peter will be forever loved and cherished by extended family and friends. 

Peter was a warm and engaging presence in the community. He was known for striking up conversations with friends and neighbors over coffee, and was always ready with a kind word or story. He and Isabelle enjoyed playing cards together regularly, a cherished tradition that brought them closer over the years. A devoted member of his church parish, Peter served faithfully as an usher for many years. He was also a dedicated real estate agent prior to retirement, maintaining lasting friendships with many of his clients. His welcoming nature and active involvement left a lasting impact on all who knew him. 

Relatives and friends will be received at LEGACY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie (parking and entrance on Hwy 400 side of building) on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 65 Amelia Street, Barrie on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 10 o’clock a.m. Following Mass all in attendance are invited to a reception at Legacy Funeral Home.
