It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pieter Vanderbent, who passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. on April 15, 2026, at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, Ontario, with his beloved wife, Corrie, by his side. The family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace with the Lord.

Pieter was born on September 27, 1937, in the Netherlands and later made Canada his home, where he built a life centered around faith, hard work, and devotion to his family. His strong Christian faith and love of the Lord were important parts of his life.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Corrie Vanderbent, and a loving father and Opa. Pieter will be remembered for his dedication to his family and the love he shared with those closest to him.

Pieter is survived by his loving wife, Corrie Vanderbent; his children Carola (Doug) Hiltz, Peter (Arina) Vanderbent, and Elizabeth Vanderbent; his grandchildren Justin Idzerda, Josiah (Jenna) Idzerda, Anna Hiltz, Zachary (Nikki) Hiltz, Joshua Hiltz, Jake Hiltz, and Conner Bisson-Vanderbent; and his great-granddaughter Claire Idzerda.

A visitation will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, 55 Cedar Pointe Drive, Barrie, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterward.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pieter’s memory may be made to Hospice Simcoe, whose compassionate care provided comfort and dignity during his final days.
