Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie on Friday, April 17, 2026 at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Hilda for 61 wonderful years. Loving father of Jeff (Nina), Ron (Cara Lynn), Gerald, Brian (Rie), and Angela (Corey). Cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Nathan, Bradley, Joseph, Joshua, Tayler, and Momoka (Misiki), and proud great-grandfather of Haruto.
Dear brother of Andrew and Corrie Van Dyke (Andy), Sister-In-Law Theresa and predeceased by his brothers Bill (Ada) and Don. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A dedicated and hardworking man, he was one of the founders of Dykstra Bros. Electric, proudly serving the Barrie area for more than 35 years. He was deeply committed to his community, volunteering as a firefighter in Barrie for 15 years and always willing to lend a helping hand.
He had a lifelong love of sports. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, hockey, curling, and golf. His energy, generosity, and community spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
Friends and family will be received at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 374 Salem Road, Barrie on Monday, May 4, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. with Funeral Service at 12:30 p.m. with reception to follow. Private family interment at Barrie Union Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
