Suzanne (Sue) Black

1944 — January 1, 2021

SUZANNE BLACK (SUE):

Graduated into the presence of her Saviour in her home on Sunday, November 14, 2021, in her 77th year, after a courageous five-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Suzanne was married to the love of her life, Doug Black, for 41 wonderful years, before his passing in 2008. She was a beloved mother, “Grammie,” sister, aunt, and best friend, who brought such immense joy and love to her family and friends. Her children and their spouses Bernice (Richard), Scott (Leah), and Jennifer will miss her dearly, as will her grandchildren, Henry, Ashley, Kylah, and Lincoln. Suzanne will also be greatly missed by her elder sister, Louise; her younger brother, Paul; and their children, as well as many close friends including Karen and Darlene, who assisted as caregivers.

Suzanne was born in Montreal on August 25, 1944, to Rolland and Anna Labonté. She trusted the Lord as her Saviour on June 15, 1958. After marrying her beloved Doug on April 23, 1966, they moved to Woodstock, Ontario. They started their family in Ancaster, Ontario, and developed many lifelong friendships there before moving to Midhurst in 1974. After Doug’s passing in 2008, Suzanne moved to Barrie where she continued to establish wonderful friendships along her journey. She served faithfully and fellowshipped at the Strongville Gospel Hall.

Suzanne had a heart full of love and compassion, a penchant for living, and she never wanted to miss out on anything. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable and cared for. You could depend on her for anything, at any time, day or night, and she was always reaching out and helping others. Suzanne also had the gift of hospitality; she loved having visitors and her door was always wide open. This included her care for the many children she babysat and loved as her own through the years. Suzanne relished gardening, decorating, and entertaining, often baking and trying new recipes which she shared with friends, family, and those in need. Suzanne delved into researching and was always trying out natural remedies and holistic treatments which balanced out her penchant for French fries and brown sugar fudge. She had a genuine care for everyone she met, and as a result, people gravitated toward her. Even through her pain and suffering, she was more concerned for the well-being of those around her and was such a source of encouragement to us all.

We are grateful to Dr. Yarish for his incredible knowledge of alternative medicine and his compassionate care for Suzanne week after week for so many years. She looked forward to her time at Lakeside Clinic, which she regarded as visits rather than appointments, and time spent with friends rather than treatments.

Suzanne touched so many with her faith and courage during her life, and she was a witness of God’s beautiful mercy right to the end. She had an unwavering faith in God and shared her joy and love for Jesus with everyone. Her dependence on Christ her Saviour gave her strength and peace to complete her journey. While our hearts are broken, we are so thankful that she is free of pain and enjoying the reality of salvation in the presence of her Saviour, Jesus Christ.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26
