Celebrating the Life of William Douglas Foster
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of William Douglas Foster on June 18, 2026, at the age of 64. William was a man with a genuinely generous heart - the kind of man who would truly give you the shirt off his back and his last five dollars if he thought it would help.
Growing up, William shared an unforgettable bond with his siblings. They will forever cherish the memories of their youth together, remembering his vibrant energy and the simple things he used to love to do. Though life brought changes, those foundational memories of their brother remain a sweet and constant comfort.
William's greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind. He was the beloved father of Danny Baker, Shalamar Foster (Ken Brown), and Tiffany McGrath (Mike McGrath). He is now peacefully reunited with his cherished son, the late Matthew Foster. He was a proud grandfather to Jace and Tatianna Baker; Noland and Carson Brown; and Kyra, Brody, and Mikayla McGrath, each of whom brought a special light to the family.
He is now at eternal rest with his parents, Douglas Foster and Treva Foster; his brother, Joseph Foster; his sister, Cheryl Foster; and his nephew, Thomas Naber.
William's memory will be lovingly cherished by his siblings, Penny Ciardelli and Derek Foster (Kym); along with his half-siblings, Lisa Tyson (Albert), Shawn Gray, and Tammy Shanks (David); his nieces and nephews, Gerit Naber, Zachary Ciardelli, Ashley Foster (Sheldon), and Brielyn Foster; as well as his extended family and friends.
In reflecting on his life's journey, we are reminded of a meaningful quote:
"Too soon we get old, too late we get wise."
As his children, we choose to remember him for his warmth, his giving nature, and the quiet lessons his journey taught us. His life reminds us all of what truly matters: to meet people exactly where they are, to love people without reservation or expectation, and to hold each other tight, because tomorrow is never promised.
William would always tell us to "keep our stick on the ice." In his passing, those words take on a deeper wisdom – a reminder to stay grounded, to keep moving forward through life's challenges, and to always be ready for whatever comes next.
He is finally at peace, deeply missed, and held in our love forever. Until we meet again.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in William's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date to honour his journey with grace and peace.
William will be cremated through Legacy Funeral Home, Barrie, with burial to follow at Barrie Union Cemetery.
